Enough is Enough

Well there seems to be a lot of debate and discussion recently over comments a leader of a certain church group made and also over the senseless suicide of a 13 year old kid. In case you haven't heard by now the suicide happened because a 13 year old kid took his own life after being bullied from being gay. What I am about to say is not a shot at any religion. What I also have to say might offend some. Something has got to change though. It seems to be that a lot of people don't remember what we were taught when we were younger "the golden rule". Instead of treating people the way we want to be treated we treat people with disrespect and hate because of things that are taught to us. Is it out of fear? Is it because putting them down makes us feel better about ourselves? Is it just easier? Whatever it is, it forms hatred. Nothing has been won, only lost out of hatred. Don't believe me? Ask the Jews what caused mass exterminations. Ask the families of the 9/11 victims. Ask the victims of the genocides that happened in Kosovo. Ask them if anything was gained out of that. We blame video games on the killings in Columbine. We don't see our own reflections in the mirror and blame ourselves for the problems in society. It is just easier to place the blame somewhere else and let the problem get fixed by someone else. We are so quick to judge first on appearance and what you are. We never seem to look deeper and find out who a person really is. We think they are Mexican they must be here to take everything I worked for. They are black they must be getting ready to steal something. They are gay they are not even worth being part of this society. They say that God did not intend for people to be gay. Then why is it a fact that most mammals have homosexual tendencies? Why do we have these stereotypes? Most of the serial killers in the US have been middle aged males. Do you suddenly hate every one that you see? Are you going to divorce your husband at that time for fear he might turn into a serial killer? I could sit here and debate religion for hours but that's not the point of this. I would never tell anybody how to live their life or that someone intended for them to live a certain way. Why is it that we must take everything people say as gospel? Why can we not think for ourselves and just live and let live. This is our life to live the way we see fit. To find happiness in this crazy world that seems more content with hate. We seem more obsessed with finding faults in others that we never sit back and think and correct that faults in ourselves. When is the last time that you stopped to help someone in need? To compliment a total stranger? Now think of when the last time was that you judged someone you never even knew. That seemed a little bit different and didn't really fit the mold. You don't really have to go that far back do you? The people that are different, the gays, the lesbians, aren't the ones that are making this place a horrible place to live. It is people just like you and me. I have also been guilty of this. I don't think anybody can honestly say they haven't. All I am saying is what have to get past the stereotypes. We have to stop judging people and let them find their happiness. That is what they are entitled to. Many of us reading this are fortunate enough to have already found their own. Why can't we grant that same respect to others? Don't let it be to late before you make a change. Don't get to the end and realize you made a big mistake. The things we do and say to people have a dramatic impact on their lives. I hope for the sake of my daughter and generations to come that enough people take a stand and stop this contagious disease that is hatred. How many more tragedies have to happen before things change? Let's stop putting the blame elsewhere and take a good look at ourselves. Stop the hate. Stop hating people for what they are. Stop teaching your kids to hate. Start judging people on their character. Stop spending so much time and energy on something you will never see a benefit from and start making a difference in someone Else's life. You never know when or where a favor might be returned to you.
